One of Oxon Hill's defining features is its proximity to the Potomac River. Potomac River Waterfront Park includes waterfront trails, bike access, parking, and approximately 60 acres of parkland. The nearby Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail extends approximately 3.5 miles from Oxon Hill Road across the Potomac River to the Huntington Metro Station in Virginia, connecting with Northern Virginia's regional trail network.

PGCPS lists Oxon Hill High School at 6701 Leyte Drive and identifies John Hanson Montessori as one of its Montessori program locations.
